About the WF2020 Initiative
Did You know?
Rochester is a growing, dynamic community, but with 77 million baby boomers set to retire over the next several decades, the effects on the overall economy will be substantial and the implications for the workforce could be enormous, creating the need for younger workers to fill the vacated jobs, many of which require a relatively high level of skill. In fact, in Olmsted County alone, the number of people age 65 and older is projected to increase by nearly 10,000 by 2020, and is projected to double by 2025.
What does this tell us? We need to continue to experiment, innovate and evaluate in our education and workforce development system. These elements will allow us to maintain future competitiveness in today’s global economy and provide the necessary supporting infrastructure we need to proactively seek innovative ideas for workforce development and retention.
To address this challenge and support a culture of entrepreneurship, the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce is serving as a catalyst for the community’s Workforce 2020 initiative. Workforce 2020, a coalition comprised of a number of community partners including the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Area Foundation, Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc., and the Department of Employment and Economic Development, is committed to promoting a globally competitive educational and workforce system for all and will work to ensure our community is a world class leader in education and workforce innovation.
Workforce 2020 is committed to this vision and looks forward to making it a reality with your support.
